Top 5: Drinking Spots at Disneyland

Long time listeners of Modern Mouse Radio or people who just know me in general know that I enjoy a good adult beverage from time to time. The great thing about have a beverage at the Disneyland or Walt Disney World resort is that you won’t ever have to worry about getting home safe or something bad happening to you. The Happiest Place in the World is also one of the safest places in the world. I would never recommend going overboard with your drinking, but if you are a lightweight and one drink can get to you, just make sure you don’t ride anything that spins too quickly and you should be just fine. Regardless, I’ve decided to split the resorts into two different top five lists as there are so many great watering holes to talk about. I’ll start with Disneyland and talk about some of my favorite stops there before continuing on to next week’s top five at Walt Disney World. So, without further ado, here are my top 5 drinking spots at Disneyland.

drinks 1

#5-Uva Bar. I’ve been a fan of this area longer than anything else on the list. The Uva bar is smack dab right in the middle of Downtown Disney. If you are walking Downtown Disney, you have to go around it. It’s completely outdoors which makes for great people watching. After park hours, this bar is always hopping due to how open and welcoming it is. Just seeing a bunch of people laughing and chatting makes you want to join them. Who doesn’t want to talk about their favorite ride of the day over a cocktail?

#4-Hearthstone Lounge. Want to take a break midday or just unwind a bit after hours? The Hearthstone Lounge at the Grand Californian Hotel is like a spa with drinks. No, they don’t have any pedicures or massages going on, but the atmosphere alone is just so relaxing! This is more a place to have a nice cocktail or wine before calling it a day. It’s generic menu doesn’t make it the best spot on the list, but it’s all about atmosphere here.

#3-Al Fresco Lounge. Talk about quiet and relaxing, the al fresco lounge is tucked away and makes it hard to find. This fancy outdoor wine bar is next to Wine Country Trattoria and if you aren’t looking for it, it can be hard to miss. What makes this better than almost any other place in Disney California Adventure is the sheer amount of wine choices as well as the view. I had thought of putting the Cove Bar or Flo’s V8 Cafe on here for the views, but this small wine bar sits up high for perfect park viewing. This is also a great place to pair some wine and cheese. 3 wines paired up is less than $20 which is pretty darn good.

#2-Carthay Circle Lounge. Beating out the Hearthstone Lounge for sophistication is Carthay Circle Lounge inside the Carthay Circle Restaurant. The bar area here is filled with bartenders that know how to make classic cocktails and know how to make them very well. The drinks here along with the cozy atmosphere make this a great dining spot for people who love a smooth martini with their steak.

drinks 5

#1-Trader Sams. This bar is not sophisticated or quiet or lounge like in any way, however it is the funnest bar I’ve ever encountered in my entire life ever! This doesn’t just top my list of Disneyland bars, it tops my list of bars anywhere. I would rather have a cocktail here than in Las Vegas, New York, etc…it’s that cool. Grab a drink, make a friend at the bar, and watch the show. Depending on the drinks ordered, elements of the bar move, shake, and make you feel as though you are part of some weird tiki circus happening. Trader Sam’s is filled with hidden gems on the walls that link themselves to historical pasts or jokes. If you want to sit out on the patio, it’s a bit quieter and in the evenings there tends to be some traditional Hawaiian music which makes that pineapple drink in a bamboo shoot taste that much more authentic.

  1. Cove Bar! The Lobster Nachos alone are worth going for, and the view overlooking Paradise Pier is absolutely perfect.
