Top 5: Reasons to go to Disneyland’s Diamond Celebration This Year

Starting on May 22nd, Walt Disney’s original theme park will be celebrating it’s 60th anniversary dubbed the Diamond Celebration. Tom Staggs, head of Disney Parks, and the rest of the parks team was on hand this past week making some announcements for the upcoming celebration. I’m stoked be making a return to Disneyland again this year in August. With that being said, you should be stoked too and if you’ve never been to Disneyland, here are my top 5 reasons to go to Disney’s Diamond Celebration this year!

#5: Souvenirs. Disneyland is always full of merch to buy but this year’s designs have got some great retro looks as well as some signature souvenirs you’ll never get again. The popcorn buckets shaped like Mickey head balloons is one of those great gifts to take home and let’s be honest, you were going to get popcorn anyways. The Disneyland 60th anniversary character shirt shows off 4 panels each looking at a span of 15 years. Its going to be a wonderful piece of art to take home.

#4: World of Color: Celebrate! The Wonderful World of Walt Disney. Since World of Color’s debut in 2010 (wow already 5 years) I would consider it the greatest show Disneyland has ever had. The show has been able to add and subtract scenes and continue to adapt, so it wasn’t a surprise to me that this new version to celebrate the Diamond Celebration was announced. It doesn’t rank higher because World of Color is a fine show as it is and the updated show will be wonderful but I’m not sure it will that much different from the original World of Color show.

#3: Disneyland Forever Fireworks Spectacular. Like World of Color, fireworks are fireworks and despite changes, a fireworks show doesn’t change to much in my opinion. However, this show adds some great elements. First off, we are updating the projection system to encompass the buildings on Main Street U.S.A. as well as Sleeping Beauty Castle. Second, we are getting some new music along with a closing number written by Disney Legend Richard Sherman, a man I will always believe has my best interest at heart. This show looks to blow minds and with the 1-2 punch of the new parade, nighttime at Disneyland will become a serious necessity on anyone’s vacation.

#2: Upgraded Attractions. If the nightlife doesn’t excite you, how about several upgraded attractions. In 2014 we got a glimpse of what is to come at Disneyland. All of the Disneyland dark ride attractions will be updated with new elements including projected videos, new animatronics and more. Rumors going around is that the long lost and beloved Hat Box Ghost, which was taken out of the Haunted Mansion after only being inside the attraction for less than a year, returns to the attraction after being got for almost 45 years. Be on the lookout for this!

#1: Paint the Night Electrical Parade. Disney and non-Disney fans know about the Electrical Light Parade. Even if you’ve never been to a Disney theme park, you probably know about the famous nighttime parade. The original Main Street Electrical Parade debuted in 1972 and ran into the mid-1990s. The parade popped up again at Disney California Adventure from 2001 until 2010 and the Disneyland resort has been without a nighttime parade ever since. Rumors had circulated about Hong Kong’s new Paint the Night Parade coming to Disneyland and those rumors are true. Paint the Night will be the return of the Electrical Parade for the first time in 5 years. That’s exciting news!

What are you excited for? New announcements are sure to come in the future. Is there anything you’d rather see? Leave your comments and let me know your thoughts
